A 173-year-old church was transformed into a contemporary home, and it is currently on the market for $2.8 million or over 23 crores.
The Holy Trinity Church, which is situated in Berkshire, England, is now an eight-bedroom, seven-bathroom home with modern upgrades.
Numerous ancient elements, such as the stone walls, the religiously themed stained glass windows, and the elaborate carvings, are still there.
The enormous glass dining table reflects the hues of the light coming through the windows.
The space that served as the church choir’s and the congregation’s main gathering place has been converted into a living space. The altar and a number of authentic crucifixes are among the features.
Due to the church’s original construction, many of the bedrooms have sloping roofs.
The new house, which was originally built in 1850, is currently on the market in London through Unique Property Company.
Its Victorian Grade 2 listing status designates the structure as historically significant and prohibits demolition.
The transition began back in 2017.
It was initially a five-bedroom house that took up 3,500 square feet by 2020 and was described as a Victorian church.
However, another 1,400 square feet of space was later added by also converting the nearby Coach House, which had previously served as the church’s equipment storage area.
The listing stated the space can be used to house personnel, and extra family members, or to turn it into an office, gym, or recording studio.
“High-tech with all the latest facilities, including underfloor heating, ventilation system, CCTV with clever and energy-saving smart-home technology,” the listing stated. “The original church door leads into an impressive entrance hall which in turn leads to the dining room and lounge.”
The “new house” utilizes the lofty ceilings of the church to its full advantage and fits nicely inside it.
In recent years, hundreds of derelict churches in England have been transformed into contemporary homes.
A Canadian couple from Ontario famously converted a 130-year-old church building into their new home in 2019. They have become professionals at flipping churches ever since.
When their realtor, Brian Ellis, uploaded a video of the completed church on TikTok, visitors from Sweden, Greece, and Thailand reportedly inquired about Perreault and Harmer’s construction process, according to Canadian news magazine Maclean. They marketed Chippy Church t-shirts and mugs because the makeover attracted so much attention. Chippy Church is the name of their home’s traditional white doors, which are painted in a genuinely aged, chipped style.
