Many people indulge in energy foods and protein bars to meet their nutrition needs, especially after a workout. But sometimes, these come loaded with added sugars that can do more harm than good for the body. So, how about preparing energy ladoos at home that are not only delicious but also packed with many benefits? If you are up for it, here’s a quick, easy recipe for sugar-free, oil-free energy ladoo from chef Meghna Kamdar.

“It’s perfect for post workout when you feel low on energy; one ladoo in and energy charged,” she captioned her Instagram post. Take a look.

Before diving into the recipe, lets find out why post-workout nutrition is essential.  Experts urge that one should have a small snack — containing both carbohydrate and protein — roughly 30-60 minutes post workout, because the body actually needs food after a physical activity as it looks to rebuild its glycogen stores, and repair and regrow muscle proteins.

“Kickstart your metabolism with something small — a serving of fruit, handful of nuts, yoghurt with seeds, top it up with caffeine if need be,” nutritionist Pooja Makhija had mentioned in an Instagram post earlier, as she detailed the need for nutrition pre and post a swim.

Now, back to the recipe:

Ingredients

1/4 cup – Almonds
1/4 cup – Walnuts
1/4 cup – Pumpkin seeds
1/4 cup – Sunflower seeds
2tbsp – White sesame seeds
3 no – Cardamom, pounded
1/2 cup – Sticky dates
Pinch – Salt
