Diwali celebrations are incomplete without sweet treats and as such, many people tend to waiver from their fitness routine. This is where a post-festive diet makes all the difference. If you are looking to work on your health post an incredible festive season, it is time to start small and take baby steps.

Bariatric surgeon Dr Aparna Govil Bhasker and registered dietician Mariam Lakdawala‘s book Sugar Free Sweets offers some incredible sweet recipes without the added sugar that can help you come back on track.

Here are the recipes that the duo shared with us.

Chia Berry Pudding

Servings: 2

Ingredients

20g – Chia seeds
250ml – Skimmed milk
45g – Strawberry
45g – Blueberry
10g – 100 per cent whey protein powder
Stevia, as per taste

Method

*Soak chia seeds with skimmed milk, whey protein, and stevia for six hours.
*Cook the soaked chia seeds mixture for 6-8 minutes until a thick consistency is obtained and cool the mixture.
*Chop/puree the berries.
*Take the serving glass, add one layer of chia seeds mixture, and one layer of berries, and repeat the process until the glass is full.
*Garnish with chopped almonds and serve chilled.

Chia berry pudding is rich in protein, fibre, and minerals which help in improving immunity, weight loss, and restoring muscle mass. Berries are a good source of vitamin C, antioxidants, fibre, and prebiotics that help to promote a healthy gut.

Makhana Delight

Servings: 4

Ingredients

30g – Makhana or foxnuts
1no – Banana
2 scoops or 24g : Whey protein (Vanilla flavoured)
60g – Almonds: 60 g
1tbsp – Peanut butter

Method

*Churn makhana and almonds in a grinder.
*Add banana to it and churn again.
*Mix whey protein, peanut butter and ice cubes to it and churn them together.
*Transfer to a bowl.
*Cool it in the refrigerator & can be set in the freezer too.

Custard Apple and Cardamom Ice cream

Servings: 4

Ingredients

120g – Fresh cream
240ml – Milk
120g – Milk powder
60g – Frozen banana
100g – Custard apple pulp
5g – Cardamom powder

Method

*Add all ingredients in a blender along with 50 g of custard apple and blend till smooth. Mix well until no sediments or lumps are formed
*Then, add the remaining custard apple into the blended mix till well incorporated.
*Take a shallow container, and pour the mixture.
*Cover the container with foil paper and freeze it until it is set.
*Finally, the ice cream is ready to serve and enjoy!

Custard apples have their own sweet and creamy taste. It is rich in magnesium, fibre, vitamin A, and other flavonoids.
