Alaya F has been setting some fitness goals lately. From yoga to gymming, the Freddy actor ensures she keeps variety in her workouts. Having said that it is not only workouts but nutrition too that counts. As such, Alaya makes sure to have pre-workout snacks that give her the energy to sustain the day.

While she can be seen dedicating time to gym, yoga, and some dance, her recent Instagram Stories update also gave us a sneak peek into her pre-workout meal. The picture showed celery juice, grape juice, and sugar-free chyawanprash and a mix of honey, turmeric, cinnamon and black pepper.

Taking a closer look at the pre-workout meal, we decided to understand how these ingredients help your health.

Grapefruit juice

According to registered dietitian Garima Goyal, grapefruit juice has been seen as a great pre-workout beverage as it has weight loss-promoting capabilities. “The fruit juice when taken pre-workout gives carbohydrates as an energy source and provides sweetness without adding up the calories. This juice is low in calories but loaded with fibre, making it an ideal pre-workout drink. Additionally, its richness in vitamin C and other antioxidants render it muscle recovery benefits,” said Goyal.

Notably, vitamin C is also needed for collagen synthesis which is needed for recovering muscles post-training. “Try having half a cup pre-workout with pulp if possible. Those who have the problem of acidity should refrain from consuming grapefruit juice pre-workout as it may trigger the symptoms of heartburn,” said Goyal.

Celery juice

Having a cup of celery juice as a pre-workout drink can be beneficial as it offers a wide range of health benefits. But there is no scientific research currently available showing the effects of celery juice consumption pre-workout, remarked Goyal. “This beverage is a boon for those individuals seeking weight loss as it is high in nutrients but low in calories and is good for health overall,” said Goyal.

However, those having the issue of high blood pressure should refrain from consuming it as it is high in sodium.

“Also it has fermentable carbohydrates and thus individuals with digestive issues can avoid its consumption to avoid digestive troubles such as bloating, flatulence etc. ,” mentioned Goyal.

Sugar free chyawanprash

Though there are claims of consuming sugar-free chyawanprash pre-workout for stamina building, but no research is available, remarked Goyal.

“Chyawanprash definitely is known for its great blend of vitamins and minerals that hastens the process of muscle recovery. Also, this Ayurvedic rasayana is known to build up stamina as well. But in my opinion, having it post-workout with a glass of milk will be much more beneficial to revitalise the body’s cells and give a boost to the body’s immunity, owing to the phytonutrients present in it,” Goyal said.

A herbal mix made with honey, black pepper, cinnamon, and turmeric is a great combination for boosting the body’s metabolism, added Goyal.

“Cinnamon is known for weight loss benefits; black pepper gives a boost to the body’s metabolism; honey detoxifies the body, and turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric and black pepper each have health benefits, due to the compounds curcumin and piperine. As piperine enhances curcumin absorption in the body by up to 2,000 per cent, combining the spices magnifies their effects. They may reduce inflammation and improve digestion,” said Goyal, adding that one should limit the quantity consumed.
