Anushka Sharma is not only a fitness addict but a proud vegetarian who tries to make some sustainable choices when it comes to her day-to-day diet and routine. As such, the 35-year-old was seen enjoying some fresh vegetarian dishes from the Northeast, courtesy of chef and Northeast food curator Gitika Saikia, who runs the page Gitika’s PakGhor on Instagram.
“Thank you for obliging my vegetarian meal requests always. Simply delicious,” wrote Anushka on her Instagram Stories, while Gitika responded, “Thank you, Anushka. Love how open you are to try the indigenous vegetables from the North East.”
Talking about her more than a year association with Anushka, Gitika said that she has curated such meals about 4-5 times for Anushka’s entire family, including her husband, cricketer Virat Kohli. “Since she loves fresh vegetarian food, she is fond of trying out new cuisine. Interestingly, Northeast food is devoid of spices like turmeric, and garam masala. It is cooked in a way that it retains optimum nutrients,” Gitika told indianexpress.com in an exclusive interaction.

Gitika also gave glimpses of the vegetables used.
Gitika also shared that since she stays closer to Anushka’s home in Mumbai’s Juhu, she curates meals for her whenever she is in town.
To keep the vegetables fresh, they are sent via air cargo from her hometown in Assam, shared Gitika.
Gitika shared that fiddlehead is one of the most common vegetables that one can see this season.
Gitika has been in the profession for the past 7+ years.
Gitika also added that Anushka is particular about her meals.
Here’s a glimpse of the chillies used, known to be one of the spiciest.
Instead of cabbage, cauliflower, and spinach, which according to Gitika, are not seasonal, one should have vegetables like spiny gourd.
Gitika also shared glimpses of using cherry tomatoes, jackfruit seeds, and maan dhonia or coriander leaves.
