Anshula Kapoor is a true foodie and her social media posts make it even more evident as she continues to share her gastronomic adventures with her followers. Her latest culinary adventure is a foodie throwback of a dream she wanted to tick on her bucket list. Any guesses? It is none other than making the beloved Italian dish — pizza from scratch.
Anshula dropped a video of herself preparing the dish next to a chef while on vacation with her partner, Rohan Thakkar, last month.
The clip begins with Rohan and Anshula sitting with two different pizzas in front of them. Then, Anshula is seen following the steps demonstrated by the chef. The two start by flattening their dough, followed by pouring red sauce over the base. Next, she sprinkles grated cheese on top with tomatoes and other veggies. Finally, she places the pizza in the oven and gives a glimpse of it when it’s fully baked.
“Fulfilled a bucket list goal last month, so it needed to be on the feed! Learned how to make pizza almost from scratch while vacationing at The Westin Himalayas! I’m going to toot my own horn and say it was (lovestruck emoji) (even though it didn’t look half as good as chef’s pizza haha),” she captioned the post.

According to Chef Sohail Karimi, Executive Chef, Radisson Blu Resort and Convention Centre, Karjat, to make the pizza from scratch, one needs a pizza base, the right sauce, grated mozzarella cheese, pizza toppings, garnish and other seasonings.
Following are the ingredients and proper methods required to make the pizza, as per Sanghamitra Sarcar, Founder & Director of The Hawking St.:
*For the dough: all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, warm water, olive oil, salt and sugar (optional).
*For the sauce: canned crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce, olive oil, garlic, dried oregano, dried basil, salt and pepper.
*For toppings: shredded mozzarella cheese, your preferred vegetables (e.g., bell peppers, onions, mushrooms) and any desired meat (e.g., pepperoni, cooked sausage).
Method
*Dough preparation: Mix flour, yeast, warm water, olive oil and salt (and sugar, if using). Knead the dough until smooth, then let it rise in a warm place for about an hour until it doubles in size.
*Sauce preparation: Sauté garlic in olive oil, add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
*Assembly: Preheat the oven, roll out the dough into a pizza shape, place it on a baking sheet or pizza stone, spread sauce, add cheese and your desired toppings.
*Baking: Bake the pizza in a preheated oven until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
Sharing some mistakes to avoid while making the pizza, Sarcar said, “Avoid overloading the pizza with toppings or sauce as it can lead to a soggy crust. Rolling the dough too thin may cause it to tear during baking. Let the dough rise adequately otherwise it will result in a dense crust.”
Similarly, Chef Karimi said that after making the dough for pizza base, allow it to rest for at least 3-4 hours, so that it gets proofed, dock the base so it doesn’t puff and never trim the edges off the base.
Listed below are some tips and tricks shared by the experts to perfect your pizza-making skills:
*Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavour.
*Pre-heat the oven for at least 20 minutes and pizza should be shifted 2-3 times in the oven while baking so that it gets cooked evenly.
*Consider using a pizza peel or parchment paper to transfer the pizza into the oven easily.
*Experiment with different toppings and combinations to find your favourite.
