Sushmita Sen has been slowly but steadily working on her fitness post surviving a major heart attack for which she underwent angioplasty. The Taali actor opened up about how her fitness routine has changed now.
Talking about her usual routine before her heart attack, the former Miss Universe shared, “It used to be intense. I actually had a warm-up of an hour, and then I usually trained for two hours and then cooled down for 30 minutes.”
But “given my wonderful heart condition over the past four months, it’s come down to doing walking, a bit of yoga, lots of stretches, and just regaining my strength”.
What’s coming up next? “As I complete six months, I can go back to doing gymnastic rings,” Sen shared in a conversation with Tweak India.
Intermittently, she has been sharing glimpses from her less-intensive workout stretches.
Previously, taking to Instagram, the actor revealed that she has been “cleared by” her cardiologist to work out. “#wheeloflife cleared by my cardiologist…stretching begins!!! What a feeling #oneweek #slowandsteady #breathe,” she captioned the picture in which she can be seen performing a back-bend stretch over a yoga wheel.
Opening up about her condition, she told her fans and followers in a live, “I survived a very big heart attack. It was very big. 95 per cent blockage in the main artery. It was a phase and it passed. It doesn’t put fear in my heart.”
Experts suggest aiming for 30 minutes of walking most days of the week can be helpful. “Remember to cool down towards the conclusion of your workout by progressively walking slower for the last three minutes. By weeks four to six, you should be able to exercise for 15-20 minutes at a time,” said Dr Narayan Gadkar, Consultant Cardiologist Zen Multispeciality Hospital, Chembur.
What to keep in mind?
Experts urge that one should avoid tasks such as lifting large weights and other physical activities for many weeks following your heart attack. Taking on too much too quickly might cause an increase in a person’s heart rate and blood pressure.
