Even City of Dreams actor Priya Bapat couldn’t keep herself from trying out something new with animal flow.

It is a dynamic bodyweight workout that includes a combination of yoga, gymnastics, and animal-inspired movement. “The exercises performed in animal flow mimic the movements of animals, thereby improving mobility, strength, and overall fitness. Without the use of weights, the body is moved in push-and-pull movements around a fixed surface. This creates resistance,” said fitness expert Garima Goyal.

This form of exercise has several benefits such as:

Flexibility improvement – The movements involved in animal flow are very dynamic in nature and various muscles get involved at a single point in time. So overall joint mobility and flexibility get improved.
Muscle toning enhancement – The exercises involved in muscle flow use the individual’s body weight as resistance for performing strength training exercises such as jumping, crawling, rolling, etc. In this way, the body’s strength and muscle toning get improvised, particularly involving the muscles of the arms, legs, and core.
Weight loss – Using the body as a resistance tool and performing dynamic movements enables burning the extra calories and this aids in weight loss. The key point to using animal flow to lose weight is maintaining a healthy diet with a caloric deficit.
Stress reduction – Since animal flow is also a type of exercise, it works really well in relaxing the body and mind by activating the ‘feel good’ neurotransmitters namely endorphins.
Improvement of body balance – The dynamic movements involved in animal flow help to improve the body’s overall balance. This reduces the risk of falls and injuries and provides stability to the body, said Goyal.
Cardiovascular fitness – The exercises involved in animal flow comprise high intensity interval training ((HIIT). This helps the body to pump more blood and oxygen, thus improving cardiovascular fitness and endurance.
Mental health improvement – Having solid control over your body weight across multiple planes requires a great deal of discipline. “Animal flow involves dynamic and uncomfortable movements. So for this, a lot of mental stamina is needed to endure such multiple movements,” said Goyal.
