Amid rumours of actor Govinda and wife Sunita Ahuja‘s alleged separation, a video of the latter admitting that once her children grew up, she started spending more time by herself has been doing the rounds on social media. “I spent a lot of time raising my children and Govinda too (laughs!) I tell every woman that she should take time out for herself too. It’s not just about the husband and the children. When will you live for yourself? I travel solo on my birthday every year. It’s been 12 years,” she said.
“I sometimes go to Mata Mandir, Gurudwara or Pashupati Temple. Always some temple. I do so much of worship. Then at 8 pm, I cut a cake and open a bottle (of alcohol) and drink alone (laughs). Then both are balanced. Puja happens and so does party. I do it alone. I enjoy it a lot,” Ahuja, who shares a “seven-year” age gap with husband Govinda, told Curly Tales.
Moreover, she also advised everyone, especially women, to follow suit. “Everyone should try it. You are born alone and you die alone. You should live for yourself. That is what I tell everyone. Husband, wife, children…all that is done. When will you live for yourself?”
Experts urge that solitude provides a rare opportunity to reconnect with oneself in a world filled with external demands and expectations.
“This mental space allows for deeper reflection, enhanced creativity, and improved problem-solving. Regular periods of solitude help regulate emotions, reduce stress, and increase self-awareness – all crucial components of psychological health,” said Dr Chandni Tugnait, MD (A.M) psychotherapist, coach and healer, founder and director, Gateway of Healing.
According to the psychotherapist, spending quality time alone helps develops a stronger sense of identity, more explicit boundaries, and greater emotional resilience. “These qualities enable more authentic connections when we engage socially,” said Dr Tugnait.
Besides building self-reliance and confidence in handling life’s challenges independently, it helps create a space for personal reflection on the relationship, leading to more conscious partnership choices.
