Rashmika Mandanna recently spoke about her friendship with colleague Vijay Deverakonda. In a chat with Neha Dhupia, she said, “Best thing would be we all come from a very middle-class family background. So, the thinking and our perspectives are very alike. That’s just being real and it’s easy,” said Mandanna.

Responding to Dhupia’s question about the “worst thing about him”, the Chhavva actor said, “he is just too serious all the time. Work, work, work. He’s just a rocket”.

During the same interaction, Mandanna revealed that Deverakonda is “always on his phone”.

Taking a cue from this exchange, let’s understand how belonging to similar backgrounds helps people connect over shared values and perspectives.

Coming from similar backgrounds and upbringing can mean having shared experiences and values. “The way people show, express or feel emotions could be similar, which adds to the friendship while creating an emotional space,” said Arouba Kabir, emotional and mental health professional, founder, Enso Wellness.

But, friendships are also built on communication, she said, adding: “Listening actively, avoiding interrupting, or refraining from raising voice during disagreements are some things that help,” said Arouba.

According to the expert, any healthy relationship needs to have a strong emotional foundation “where you feel safe”.

“If the relationships are built on mutual respect and trust, it creates an environment where all parties can fully enjoy and experience things beautifully,” said Arouba.

The digital age has made it easier to maintain superficial connections with large numbers of people. However, the fundamental human need for deep, meaningful relationships remains unchanged, she added.

Much recently, Mandanna also spoke about her happy place. “Home is my happy place. It makes me feel anchored, makes me feel rooted, makes me feel like success can come and go, but it’s not forever. But home is forever. So, I work from that space. As much as I love and this fame and the visibility that I get, I still am just a daughter, just a sister, just a partner. I really respect that life, that personal life that I have. Right now, I am living in the best of both worlds, but I am someone who will guard this personal life with my own life,” she shared in a chat with The Hollywood Reporter India.
