The Princess of Wales arrived for her father-in-law King Charles III’s coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey, London on Saturday looking absolutely heavenly. Always impeccably dressed, Kate Middleton was seen wearing an ivory silk crepe gown by one of her favourite designers Alexander McQueen, which was replete with silver bullion and thread work embroidery featuring rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs to represent each of the four nations of the United Kingdom — England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Kate layered her dress with a deep blue Royal Victorian Order mantle edged in scarlet. She was made a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO) by the late Queen in 2019, and is hence entitled to wear the Grand Cross Mantles of the Royal Victorian Order.
The Princess also made heads turn by wearing a gorgeous Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen showstopper headpiece with silver bullion, crystal and silver thread work and three-dimensional leaf embroidery instead of a tiara that is traditionally worn by the royals.
Kate also opted for spectacular jewellery that paid homage to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, and also the Queen. While the pearl and diamond earrings that Kate adorned for the coronation event once belonged to Princess Diana, the shimmery three strand George VI Festoon Necklace was a favourite of the late monarch’s and was made using 105 loose collet-set diamonds at the request of King George VI for his daughter..
Kate also twinned with her 8 year-old daughter Princess Charlotte who was also dressed in an Alexander McQueen dress and cape with ivory satin stitch embroidery. She also wore a Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen headpiece, similar to the one worn by her mother.
