Incorporate fashion trends into your wardrobe without compromising on personal style

Fashion trends don't have to be limited to the runway or the red carpet. You can incorporate them into your own wardrobe too.

Whether it’s maxi skirts or low-rise jeans, fashion trends have become a part of our daily wardrobe. If you’ve been racking your head about how to incorporate these trends into your closet, you’ve come to the right place. Wearing trends doesn’t necessarily entail having to sacrifice your personal style. But there is of course an art (read: guide) to walking the talk.

According to designer Shilpi Gupta, you must never compromise your own sense of style. “It is not necessary to follow a trend if it causes you to feel self-conscious or uneasy,” she said.

However, Gupta noted that there are certain occasions when it’s important to appear stunning for the event and follow the wackiest of wacky trends.

Fashion trends don’t have to be limited to the runway or the red carpet. You can incorporate them into your own wardrobe too. Here are some tips on how to include fashion trends into your personal style without sacrificing on either, according to the expert:

Layering is your best friend

Choose to layer — it not only prevents you from feeling too exposed but also looks sophisticated.

If going sleeveless makes you feel uneasy, you can alternatively wear a cape. Deep necklines or backs can be covered with sheer or net materials, which not only makes you feel comfortable but also gives the outfit an extra touch.

Accessories are important

One can dress simply and then accessorise to make a statement. Accessories have a great ability to complete a look. The final step is to add embroidered belts, which highlight your curves and if you’re wearing a sari, it can keep your pallu from sliding.

Tulle can make everything work

Tulle is a magical item everyone must have in their wardrobe. It can uplift your outfit in mere seconds. Gupta suggested pairing a monochrome jacket and tulle skirt as they will work together to create a beautiful and well-balanced look.

Invest in classics

Pick up timeless pieces like trench coats, tailored shirts and skirts, and slouchy trousers and your regular staples in neutral colours, which will have you looking sophisticated in no time. No need to go crazy with the pieces, just stick to the things you know will work so that you can easily translate a look to real life.

Be attentive to the details

A well-tailored piece of item in your wardrobe can have you going from zero to hero. These pieces can pull an outfit together seamlessly. You must pay attention to details. What is the material, the fabric, its quality? Experiment with different textures and bold patterns.
