Sequel to Shantaram, The Mountain Shadow to release in October

The fervently-awaited sequel is now set to release on October 13, 2015.

The fervently-awaited sequel to Australian author Gregory David Roberts’ literary masterpiece Shantaram is now set to release on October 13, 2015. Titled The Mountain Shadow, this extraordinary new novel is the result of ten years’ work by the author.

Robert, who is a former heroin addict and bank robber wrote his first novel Shantaram in 2004. The book is based on his life after he escaped from the maximum-security Pentridge Prison in Australia, and fled to Bombay in 1980. In Bombay, he set up free health clinics in the slums, acted in Bollywood movies and even worked with the Bombay mafia. The book narrates the events of the ten years Roberts spent in India before being caught and extradited back to his native land. First published in the UK in 2005, Shantaram was widely acclaimed and sold over four million copies worldwide.

The Mountain Shadow takes place in Bombay two years after Shantaram, and continues with the story of Lin(aka Shantaram), Karla and Abdullah – the central characters in Shantaram.

On his official page of Facebook, Gregory David Roberts wrote, “With this novel, I’m not just writing for blank slate readers who’ve never read a word of my work: I’m also writing for readers who found something in Shantaram, and I want to give them a sequel as fragrant to complete the journey they began with Lin and Karla.”
