The Budget Session of Parliament will start on July 22 and conclude on August 12, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Saturday. The Union Budget will be presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23.
“This will be the first budget presented by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in its third term amid high anticipation following President Droupadi Murmu’s assertion that it will be marked by many historic steps,” Rijiju said in a post on X.
Rijiju said that the President, on the recommendation of the Government of India, has approved the proposal for summoning both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session, 2024, from July 22 to August 12 (subject to exigencies of parliamentary business).
In her address to a joint sitting of Parliament, President Murmu had said major social and economic decisions will be a highlight of the Union Budget. An interim budget was presented in February due to the Lok Sabha polls.
In 2023, the Budget Session had commenced on January 31 and had concluded on April 6. The Budget Session had 25 sittings last year. The Union Budget was presented on February 1 last year.
