The Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay the release of ‘PM Narendra Modi’, a biopic on the Prime Minister, and asked the petitioner to submit what the film was seeking to depict and state the objections to it.
“Any kind of Order from the Court will be possible if the petitioner states and pleads what the film is seeking to depict and his objections on this count,” said a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, and including Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Jain. It listed the matter for hearing on Tuesday, and asked the petitioner and Congress activist Aman Panwar to place the facts before it.
Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi urged the court to direct that a copy of the film be furnished to him so as to enable him to present the contents and objections before the court.
However, the bench turned this down saying, “We fail to see how such a direction can be issued by the court.”
