West Bengal Home Secretary Gyan Dutta Goutama today did not rule out a Maoist angle to the Lalgarh firing,a day after stating that the incident was due to political rivalry between CPI-M and Trinamool Congress.

“Three persons have been arrested and any Maoist link in the incident is being looked into,” Goutama told reporters here.

The CPI(M) has claimed that Maoists fired on the villagers at Netai village in Lalgarh police station area in West Midnapore district yesterday.

When asked if Maoists were involved,Goutama had yesterday said,”I don’t know of any such thing. Detailed report is yet to come. Once it comes,I will be able to tell you what exactly happened.”

The Home Secretary had said that the firing,in which eight persons were killed, was the result of a political clash between the Trinamool Congress and the CPI(M).
