While reviewing the achievements of agriculture,irrigation and sericulture in Doda district,the Minister for Agriculture G H Mir today underlined the need of community participation in the development of these sectors in the region.
There is the need of community participation in the development of these sectors in the region,Mir said during his tour in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
He directed the officers to have close coordination with the newly elected representatives of the panchayats for the planning,implementation and monitoring of various schemes in the district.
The minister said that there was a need to provide more awareness among the poor farming community on various benefit and welfare schemes,particularly Kissan Credit Cards (KCC) and the latest technologies being adopted in farming for high and qualitative production.
Mir directed the officers to organize kissan melas in each panchayat to create awareness at grass root level which will revolutionizing the agriculture and allied sectors in the state.
He asked them to motivate farmers in the district to cultivate high yielding and hybrid varieties of crops and vegetables,and said seeds,fertilizers,insecticides and other essentials should be timely available.
Further,he said there was good potential of silk worm rearing in Doda and asked the sericulture department to identify government land available for the creation of Mulberry Nurseries. There are 6000 cocoon growers in the district.
