Three days after seven people including two girls were caught impersonating for candidates in the entrance test to the MBBS and BDS seats in two private medical colleges in Jammu, the Omar Abdullah government has decided to hand the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The decision was taken, government sources said, because the wards of some very high-profile people were involved, including the daughter of a sitting Cabinet minister and the son of a former minister. This former minister is a senior leader of the National Conference.

Though there has been no word from the government on this,highly-placed sources said a decision in this regard was taken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah late last evening. Abdullah also met Director General of Police Kuldeep Khuda who apprised the chief minister about the details of the case.

Sources said one Shruti Gaur from Mathura,Uttar Pradesh, was caught appearing in the entrance test for Huma Tabassum, the daughter of Ghulam Mohammad Saroori,a Cabinet minister in Omar Abdullah government.

Though Saroori denies having hired any person to impersonate his daughter in the MBBS test for the management quota, police officials said records submitted by the management of Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) show that Huma’s photograph on the admit card ‘resembled’ Shruti.

The former minister, whose son allegedly used an impersonator, has been identified as Ram Pal who was a minister in the Farooq Abdullah government. Mobeen, son of Mohammad Akhtar of Ashtam Nagar,Lucknow, was found impersonating Lovish Pal.

Sources said another reason why the case has been handed over to the CBI was Saroori’s charge that there was a conspiracy to frame him by his adversaries. Pointing out that his daughter was a student of BA Part III in Government College for Women at Gandhi Nagar,he demanded a thorough probe to find out who had engaged the girl from UP to impersonate his daughter.

Saroori also alleged the ASCOMS management had resorted to such malpractices in the past as well.

Seven people were apprehended for impersonating during the written tests conducted by ASCOMS on the Jammu University Campus on Saturday.

Police said one of the apprehended impersonators was a doctor at Sagar Hospital in Madhya Pradesh. Identifying her as Sheetal Gupta, daughter of Ashok Gupta of Malviya Nagar,Bhopal, cops said she was impersonating Arish Kiran, daughter of Ajit Kumar of Janipura.

The other apprehended impersonators include Lalit Kumar,Satinder Singh, and Jabbar Singh (all Bihar),and Om Parkash of Rajasthan.

They were brought by one Kunj Bihari of Bihar,a day before the entrance test and kept in separate hotels. A senior police official said Kunj Behari managed to escape after the arrests. He said the impersonators were promised Rs 50,000 each for the job. Kunj Bihari in turn had taken Rs 1 lakh from the parents of each candidate,he said.

Meanwhile, the police have decided to send a team to Bihar to trace Kunj Bihari.
