Wet days ahead as IMD predicts heavy rainfall, hailstorms across India

North India, which usually sees high temperatures and even heatwaves at this time of the year, is currently witnessing a much cooler summer with rains and generally cloudy conditions.

Several parts of India are likely to experience heavy rainfall in the coming days, with some areas likely to be affected by hailstorms as well, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin said.

North India, which usually sees high temperatures and even heatwaves at this time of the year, is currently witnessing a much cooler summer with rains and generally cloudy conditions. According to IMD, Light to moderate widespread rainfall is likely over parts of northwest India in the next 24 hours. Snowfall conditions are also likely in some places, along with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds.

As per IMD, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab will witness heavy rainfall on May 2 whereas west Rajasthan will face duststorms on May 4.

East Madhya Pradesh will see hailstorm on May 2 while the rest of the central India will initially witness scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in next 2 days and thereafter a gradual reduction will prevail, stated IMD.

According to the weather department, hailstorms will prevail in West Bengal on May 2 and 3 followed by a heavy rainfall in Sikkim as well on May 2.

Heavy rainfall is likely in southern states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Tamil Nadu on May 2 and 3. Telangana is expected to see hailstorms on May 2 while scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds will prevail in the southern India over the next 5 days.

Moreover, parts of Northeast like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya will get heavy rainfall during May 2 to 4 while fairly widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds will continue for the next 5 days.

Further in the west, Marathwada — a region in Maharashtra — will witness hailstorm on May 2 and experience light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over the region during next 5 days.
