In August last year, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav donned the chef’s hat for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who became his apprentice and learned the recipe for “Champaran mutton”, with RJD leader Misa Bharti also joining them in the cooking session.

A video was posted on Rahul’s YouTube page on September 2.

In the over seven-minute-long video, Rahul can be seen picking the RJD supremo’s brain on politics and imbibing culinary skills from him. “I always find Laluji to be very incisive and I respect his political gyan,” the Wayanad MP says in the video. The video was released a day after the third meeting of the Opposition alliance in Mumbai.

Rahul can be seen asking the RJD chief what according to him is “political masala”. “Political masala is to struggle and fight injustice,” Prasad responds.

Rahul also asks the RJD chief about the ruling BJP allegedly spreading hatred, to which Prasad says the political hunger of the party is never satiated. Further, the Congress leader says, “When the economic situation is better, this (spreading of hate) happens less and when it is bad, this happens more. Right now, the economic situation is bad, so this is on the rise.”

Highlighting the role of Congress in showing “a new path to the country”, Prasad, when asked for a suggestion to Rahul and other next-generation politicians, says, “My suggestion is that your parents, grandparents had shown a new path to the country and kept it on the righteous path, you should not forget that.”

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, who was also present during the dinner, chimed in, alleging that the BJP “does such propaganda, infuses poison and brainwashes people”.

In the video, Rahul can also be seen asking Prasad if the BJP’s eventual objective is to “steal from the poor”.

“Their aim is to burn down the houses of the poor, destroy their wealth and their homes. They want to have people in their clutches,” Prasad responds. The INDIA bloc leaders also talk about eliminating hatred and “opening mohabbat ki dukan“.

Asked if he knows how to cook, Rahul says he is not an expert but can cook. “When I used to work in Europe, I had to learn cooking,” he says. He also got the mutton dish packed for his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
