‘True icon of Tamil cinema’: PM Modi pays tributes to MGR on his birth anniversary

On behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, state Cabinet ministers Tha Mo Anbarasan and P K Sekar Babu, Chennai Mayor R Priya and other officials paid floral tributes to MGR’s statue placed at The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University in Guindy.

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, who paid floral tributes to a portrait of the leader at his residence, issued a statement addressing party cadres where he exuded confidence about the party winning the massive mandate of the people in the elections and said the DMK government would be ousted soon. “The cadres and functionaries of AIADMK should take a vow on the birth anniversary to eradicate the evil forces in the election,” he said.

Edappadi urged the cadres to conduct more public meetings and take the welfare schemes rolled out by MGR and J Jayalalithaa to the people, to stand with those let down by poor governance, to carry out welfare activities, and to ensure that the AIADMK is with the people.
