Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge Monday said that there should be no retirement age in politics, and those who want to work for people should do so till death. Kharge made the remarks at the launch of Congress leader Sushilkumar Shinde’s memoir ‘Five Decades of Politics’ published by Harper Collins.
At the event, Shinde appreciated the party leadership for elevating him as CM of Maharashtra (2003) despite the fact that he was a Dalit. “One should work hard whatever they do and should do it with dedication. For going up, you also need support. I got it from Rajiv ji (Gandhi). He encouraged me. Then after him, it was Sonia ji. I don’t have words for what she did… she sent me as the Maharashtra CM. Otherwise, an SC as CM in Maharashtra wasn’t an easy thing. Yes, Sushilkumar Shinde is fair, speaks well, looks like a Brahmin… to make an SC the CM, only Sonia Gandhi ji could have done it,” he said.
The book’s co-author Rasheed Kidwai and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh were also present.
