Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha recently said that the state government has set a target to keep a stock of at least 50,000 units of blood.

Saha said the state had insufficient stocks of blood during the Covid-19 pandemic and the same situation is repeated during every election season.

“There should be a balance between blood donation and blood storage. We need to fix the target of collecting blood based on the demand in the state. Blood can be stored for a particular period, and after that, it gets wasted. People between 18-65 years old need to donate blood,” Saha said while addressing a blood donation camp organised by the BJP in Agartala.

The state has six blood separation centres including four government ones and two private centres. Besides, Tripura has 14 blood banks –12 government-run and the rest private.
