Expressing satisfaction over the possibility of the Jamaat-e-Islami contesting the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti lashed out at the Centre for urging the Jamaat to contest the polls.
Speaking at the PDP’s 25th foundation day event on Saturday, Mufti urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to form a panel of representatives from both sides of the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, to discuss the region’s issues. “Amit Shah says they (Centre) want the other side of Kashmir (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir), they tell Muslims in this country to go to Pakistan… what they can do is form a panel of representatives from both sides of Kashmir. We could sit together twice a year and discuss regional issues. Can they dare to do this?” Mufti said, while addressing PDP workers at Sher-e-Kashmir park in Srinagar.
Highlighting that the Centre had earlier blamed her for supporting the Jamaat, Mufti said: “…You banned it. It used to run schools… Today they are approaching the same Jamaat… to agree to contest the polls…”
