Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said the state government was doing everything possible to restore peace, including initiatives that “cannot be disclosed publicly”.
“We understand the untold hardship the people have been facing owing to the prevailing conflict…. The Government is doing whatever it can to resettle all the communities peacefully. There are initiatives that cannot be disclosed publicly but I assure you we are continuously working towards restoring peace at the earliest,” the chief minister said on the sidelines of the flag-off ceremony of the Har Ghar Tiranga bike rally from Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal East.
Singh said that no forces in the world could disintegrate India or Manipur. “Given that India is a democratic country, let them demand whatever they want. But the Government’s stance is steadfast when it comes to the integrity or unity of the country or the state. No forces in the world can break this unity,” he said.
Although the rally is an annual event, Singh said it was crucial given the prevailing situation in the state. Sending out a message of oneness and peace in times of need is special, he added.
The chief minister appealed to the people to contribute towards building a strong and united India as well as Manipur.
DGP Rajiv Singh said the rally would pass through certain areas of Imphal, then through Nambol, Bishnupur and end at the Indian National Army complex in Moirang, where the riders would be felicitated.
Twenty-four motorcycle riders’ organisations and clubs with more than 1,200 riders including from the police and the youth affairs and sports department took part in the bike rally.
