Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday will visit NCP president Sharad Pawar’s home town Baramati to participate in a function organised by the Agriculture Development Trust. Fadnavis is likely to share his vision on policy reforms in agriculture in Maharashtra at the function.

Interestingly, this will be the first time Pawar and Fadnavis would come on a common platform on issue related to agriculture in Baramati. Both BJP and NCP party leaders indicated that there was nothing political about the meeting. The trust chairman Rajendra Pawar has extended invitation to Fadnavis to attend their annual function – Agriculture Exhibition.

Sources indicated that the chief minister will unravel some of the policy reforms including loan restructuring, irrigation policies and crop pattern changes undertaken by his government in the last one year to address the farmers suicide and recurring drought in Maharashtra. He would also explain the progress made by the government through its flagship project “jalyukta shivar yogna”. The highlight would be the additional 25 TMC water that helped bring 6 lakh hectares of land under irrigation across worst drought-hit 6,200 villages in the state.

Political managers in the NCP said, “ Since Pawar will be playing the host, it is unlikely he would give any lessons on agriculture to chief minister. It would be a cordial meeting where other cabinet ministers and elected members would also mark their presence.”

In the recent past, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union finance minister Arun Jaitely also had visited and participated in functions organised by Pawars at Baramati.
