The Centre plans to bring an amendment to the Indian Penal Code to make corruption in private sector a criminal offence,Union Minister V Narayanasamy said on Saturday.

“We want to bring out the amendment to the IPC to check corruption in the private sector,” the Minister of State in the PMO and Personnel said at a session on the second day of the Conference of Editors here.

The Home Ministry was preparing the bill which would be tabled in Parliament in the Monsoon session,he said.

Earlier, taking a dig at the media over its coverage of the Lokpal Bill issue,Narayanasamy said it created a hype over social activist Anna Hazare’s campaign for an effective anti-corruption watchdog.

“Too much coverage by electronic media will not be in good taste..Recently,media made (Janata Party President) Subramanian Swamy ‘hero’ ahead of the judgement (by CBI court on his plea to include Home Minister P Chidambaram an accused in the 2G case). But what happened after the judgement,he was made zero..everything was forgotten,” he said.
