Sunday morning proved to be quite an embarrassment for CPI(M) as the party posters in Kerala’s Nedumkandam, Idukki district, featured a glaring image of North Korean autocrat Kim Jong-un giving out a salute. The poster was supposed to make an announcement about a party gathering in the town.
A district party leader told the Indian Express that the embarrassing error happened at the regional level as local workers had put the posters up. The posters were duly removed when it came to the attention of senior leaders. No action has been taken against the workers yet, he said. The flexes were put up at Nedumkandam, in Udumbamchola, the constituency represented by Power Minister MM Mani in Idukki.
BJP’s Sambit Patra was one of the first politicians to have reacted to the CPI(M) faux pas. He made a jibe at the BJP’s rival party in Kerala by saying he hopes that the Left is not planning to launch missiles at the RSS, BJP offices.
Ever since the Left Democratic Front (LDF) came to power in the state in 2016, both CPI(M)and the BJP-RSS faction have been at loggerheads with each other. The political differences and the resulting competition has often turned violent, especially in areas like Kannur where numerous deaths have been reported, both from CPI(M) and RSS cadres.
