A day after Madhya Pradesh BJP chief V D Sharma said that the doors were open for former chief minister Kamal Nath to join the party, his son Nakul Nath has dropped ‘Congress’ from his bio on social media accounts.
With his son’s move adding fuel to speculations, all eyes are now on Kamal Nath’s Delhi visit on Saturday. The former chief minister was touring his bastion in Chhindwara when he made travel plans for Delhi. He left Damua in Chhindwara and arrived in Bhopal in the afternoon following which he left for Delhi.
Several leaders close to Nath, including Jabalpur Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh ‘Annu’, left the party and joined the BJP. On Friday, when asked about Kamal Nath joining the BJP, V D Sharma said, “If someone has belief in the BJP leadership and believes in its policies, for such people the doors are open… We have opened our doors to those people in the Congress who think that their party boycotted the Ram Mandir consecration event. Ram is in Bharat’s mind and Ram resides in its heart. He was insulted by the Congress. If these leaders have pain in their heart, then they should be given an opportunity. And the name you are taking (Nath), if in his heart he has such pain, then I think he is welcome.”
Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari, meanwhile, dismissed rumours of Nath joining the BJP. “Can you imagine Indira’s third son leaving the Congress? Even in your dreams can such a thought occur that Kamal Nath, under whose guidance we fought the Assembly elections just two months ago, would leave the party? When Scindia was leaving the party, it was people like us who were taking blows from the police to ensure that Kamal Nath would remain the chief minister. Can he leave us? These are rumours. For the Rajya Sabha nominations, Ashok Singh’s name was presented by Kamal Nath. We also took his name after that. This news is false,” Patwari said at the state headquarters of the Congress in Bhopal.
Calling it sensational news, Congress leader and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh recently rubbished rumours of Nath joining the BJP. “I spoke to Kamal Nath, he is in Chhindwara. If someone who joined his political career with the Nehru-Gandhi family… He stood with them… Can you expect such a person to leave the party? You should not have such expectations.”
Meanwhile, in his brief interaction with reporters after he arrived in the national capital Saturday afternoon, Kamal Nath said if there would be any such thing (him joining the BJP), he would inform the media first.
Earlier this month, Kamal Nath too addressed the rumours and said, “There are so many rumours going on, what can I say about them?”. Nath and his son Nakul Nath, who is the current MP of Chhindwara, have been on a tour of the constituency. Nakul recently said that he will be the Lok Sabha candidate in Chhindwara, despite the Congress high command not formally making an announcement.
