Nachika Linga, who formed the Maoist frontal organisation Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh that was instrumental in abduction of BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka in Koraput district two years ago, on Tuesday did not make the much-awaited surrender before the police in a village in Koraput.

The 42-year-old Linga, tribal leader from Narayanpatna block of Maoist-hit Koraput district with more than 50 cases of violence against him, shot to prominence in April 2012 when he helped Maoists abduct Hikaka when he was returning home. He has been underground since he allegedly led an attack on police in 2009.

He was supposed to surrender at Balipeta village before his supporters 11 am Tuesday.

But with large number of BSF and policemen lurking in the background, he did not turn up. IG (south-western range) said police welcome anyone who wants to leave the path of violence, but only courts can take a decision on Linga’s future.
