The cast and crew of the movie Sadda Haq led by producer-writer-cum-lead actor Kuljinder Singh Sidhu on Sunday approached the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, requesting its intervention to get the ban imposed on the movie by the Punjab government revoked.

A request was submitted to Akal Takht chief Giani Gurbachan Singh. “They have submitted an application seeking Akal Takht’s intervention in the case. The issue will be discussed at a meeting of the Sikh clergies,” said the Akal Takht chief, declining from commenting on when the meeting would be held.

The application, urging the Akal Takht to discuss the matter with SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, stated that the movie depicted the excesses committed to the Sikh community in the 1980s and 90s. Sidhu maintained that the film did not hurt the feelings of any community. He added that it was time the Takht chief led from the front to get the government order revoked.

Sidhu also acknowledged the efforts made by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to get the Censor Board ban revoked.
