LIVE: Bharat bandh call by trade unions affects banking, transport services

Protesting against the proposed changes in various labour laws, 10 central trade unions are observing a 24-hour nation-wide bandh today.

The bandh call was given by the unions after talks between them and the govt failed. Business, banking and transport services are disrupted due to the bandh call.

In West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a circular on Monday directing all government employees to be present today. However, it was revised later and all employees are said to lose a day’s pay if they go on leave.

In Mumbai, cab and autorickshaw drivers stayed off roads protesting against the low base fare. The Nitesh Rane-led Swabhimaan Union are backing the total bandh call and services of nearly 10,000 cabs are affected.

In Delhi NCR, trade unions are demanding the right to collective bargaining and raising minimum wages to Rs 15,000 amongst other things.

Trade union leaders claimed that around 15 crore formal sector workers are on strike in support of their 12-point charter of demands.

union today joined the one-day nationwide strike call given by ten central trade unions, protesting against changes in labour laws.
