Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday directed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption director to lay trap against corrupt public servants for offences of gratification under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in order to weed out corruption at all levels of administration.

Official sources said with an order to this effect coming into force immediately, the director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption would not have to obtain prior permission from the government for conducting preliminary or regular enquiry against any corrupt public servant after being arrested through such trappings.

Only after completion of the enquiry would the director obtain prosecution sanction from the government, an official press note issued here said. The provisions of CrPC shall be applicable in respect of laying of trap and conducting investigations following arrest of the person, it added.
