The Allahabad High Court today dismissed a petition challenging acquisition of land for the proposed 160-km-long Taj Expressway.
A Division Bench comprising Justice S K Singh and Justice Shabihul Hasnain rejected the writ petition filed by two farmers of Korab village in Mathura district who had challenged acquisition of land belonging to them by Uttar Pradesh government for the proposed Expressway which is expected to drastically reduce the time required to travel by road between Delhi and Agra.
The court was of the view that it cannot be said that proceedings initiated by the state for acquisition of land are illegal,unlawful,unwarranted and mala fide.
The petitioners land was acquired in pursuance of two notifications issued by the state government in 2007 and 2008.
It also noted that courts have been cautioned by the apex court to be very slow,rather rigid,in dislodging ambitious projects which are for the good of the public.
The respondents are to go ahead to achieve the objective of the project as noted above which was meant and is meant for the public,the court added.
