Shop worker dead,another injured in clash

MOGA: A worker at a chemist shop died while another sustained injuries during clashes between two groups here late Wednesday night. Police said Inderjit Singh of Safuwala village died after being attacked by fellow worker Ranjodh Singh and his friends. The two had an argument at the shop a few days ago,which prompted the shop owner to fire Ranjodh from his job. Police said that he,along with his friends,came to the shop on Wednesday armed with bricks and baseball bats and assaulted Inderjit,who died of head injuries. A case has been registered.

Pratibha meets tourism minister

SHIMLA: Mandi MP Pratibha Singh on Wednesday sought a Rs 100 crore fund from Union Minister of State for Tourism K Chiranjeevi,for the integrated development of the Kullu-Manali Mega Tourism Circuit; the development of the International Convention Centre and Expo-Mart at Kiarighat-Shimla-Barog as a tourist destination; development of Buddhist destination as a tourist circuit; integrated development of Una-Nadaun as a tourist destination and setting up of Institute of Hotel Management in Kullu. She met the minister in Delhi on Wednesday and submitted a proposal in this regard.

SBOP reduces base rate by 25 basis points

PATIALA: The State Bank of Patiala has reduced its Base Rate by 25 basis points from 10.25 per cent to 10 per cent. The revised Base Rate will be effective from July 22,according to a bank spokesperson.

Punjab promotes crop diversification

KAPURTHALA: To encourage farmers adopt crop diversification methods,the Punjab government has provided over Rs 5 crore financial assistance horticulture farmers of Kapurthala district,deputy commissioner (Kapurthala) D S Mangat said here on Wednesday. He added that around 1,150 acres of land in the district has been brought under fruit cultivation. He further said that the Horticulture department is providing technical assistance to develop new gardens,vegetable farming,Green House farming,Cold Storage and Pack Houses as well as subsidies.

Panchayats get temporary heads

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government has issued a notification to appoint administrators for 75 municipal councils and panchayats,that have completed their terms,a government spokesperson said here on Wednesday. The administrators will look after the work of the civic agencies till the new presidents are elected,he said before adding that the tenure of 75 municipal councils and panchayats will end between July 16th and July 31st .
