The BJP Tuesday announced it would hold at least 10 sessions of its ‘chai pe charcha’ programme every five days. The campaign, which would be launched by the party’s PM candidate Narendra Modi on February 12, would be simultaneously held at 1,000 locations in 300 cities.

“There would be at least 10 rounds — it can go up to 12-15 rounds — every five days, with each round simultaneously held at 1,000 locations in 300 cities. The plan is to connect about two crore people using technology like DTH, satellite, internet, mobile phones and social media,” Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said.

Top party leaders will participate in the programme and participants will be able to “share, ask and suggest” their ideas with them. Swaraj said each round will have different themes — the first one will be focused on ‘good governance’.  The programme is being organised by Citizens for Accountable Governance, an NGO that connects non-traditional electorate groups through various initiatives. It had also organised a youth conclave last October and the ‘run for unity’ campaign last December for the BJP.

The BJP hopes the programme would attract voters in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections. The campaign would continue for two months. It would be held at 70 locations in Delhi, 30 in Mumbai and 25 in Bangalore. State-wise, Uttar Pradesh will host it at 172 locations in 41 cities followed by Andhra Pradesh, which would hold it at 108 locations in 21 cities. Maharashtra (91 locations in 20 cities) and Karnataka (82 locations in 25 cities) are other major centres for the campaign. While in Gujarat it would be held at 64 locations in 24 cities, in Bihar it would be organised at only 39 locations in 16 cities.
