Denying allegations that it misused funds collected during the Amarnath agitation,an organisation formed to resolve the land issue,on Wednesday said that its account books were open to all for scrutiny.

“From time to time,we have informed the public that our account books are available in case anyone has a query. He can clarify from the treasurer and can even see the accounts and receipt books”,acting convenor of Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS) Brigadier (retd) Suchet Singh told reporters in Jammu.

He blamed certain politicians and political parties for spreading misinformation on the Samiti’s accounts, especially the Rs 1.67 crore collected during the two month agitation over the Amarnath land row,and said it was targeted to derive political mileage during the upcoming Parliamentary elections in the state.

Defending his organisation’s role,Singh said that the Samiti has not gone door to door to collect the funds but it was donation from the public against proper receipts given to them. He added that money was either deposited online in a bank, with treasurers or presented to its members in various functions.
