The fallout within the Yadav family has resulted in newly appointed Samajwadi Party state chief Shivpal Yadav resigning from all party posts and portfolios held by him in the Uttar Pradesh government. However, reports indicate that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has refused to accept his resignation and has sent back the letter. News channel ETV says that Shivpal is adamant on quitting from all posts. Shivpal’s son has also stepped down as Chairman of Pradeshik Cooperative Federation. Samajwadi Party’s parliamentary board will convene on Friday and seek to resolve the feud, UP Health Minister Ravidas Mehrotra said.
Shivpal sent his resignation letter after meeting party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. Mulayam tried to reconcile his son Akhilesh and brother Shivpal and asked them to work together to ensure that SP returns to power in the upcoming state assembly elections. However, the damage seems to be irreparable as the meeting between Shivpal and Akhilesh on Thursday afternoon lasted just 15 minutes. Akhilesh latter met Mulayam at his residence in Lucknow, shortly before Shivapal announced his resignation.
