Shimla: Young lawyer’s wife f​a​ll​s​ victim to jaundice, leaves​ behind​ four day baby girl

Number of deaths due to jaundice has risen to 10 ,which is still being disputed by the medical authorities who have put the number to four.

In perhaps worst tragedy among jaundice deaths in the town,a young lawyer Raman Jamalta ,30,lost his wife Supriya ,25 leaving back her four day old baby girl,born at state’s Kamla Nehru hospital on February 13.

Supriya ,who got married only an year back,was admitted to the hospital last week where she delivered a health baby girl but two days later she was detected a jaundice patient.

“She was immediately moved to Indira Gandhi Medical Collage (IGMC) Shimla where she was kept in Intensive care unit hoping her revival . Two days ,she remains in ICU but today morning ,she fell victim to the disease” confirmed Ajay Mohan Goel,a leading Shimla lawyer and a senior of Jamalta .

Goel today filed an application in the High Court seeking judicial intervention to make the government accountable for the deaths. ” There is also anger building-up in the lawyers fraternity over this particular death” he said.

When contacted Dr Ramesh Chand ,senior Medical Superintendent IGMC said ” death of young lady has left the entire hospital and staff in shock,leave aside her family.She was detected as Hepatitis-A and E patient .There are two other lawyers one of them Jagdish vats ,who has been shifted to PGI chandigarh in highly critical condition” he told the Indian Express.

Another lawyer Rakesh Chandel is at IGMC . Son of a former Judge of High Court is also infected by jaundice .Vats daughter’s wedding is slated in next 10 days time,said a family acquaintance.

What has surprised Shimalities ,affected by the jaundice was Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh two days back rebuking media professionals for exaggerating and overplaying jaundice outbreak ,which is a minor thing.

” Nothing could be more distressing to listen to Chief Minister on Tv channels saying claiming this to be a small thing” said BJP Shimla MLA Suresh Bhardwaj.

Half of Shimla families are affected by jaundice .The report of an expert team from National Institute Virology (NIV) Pune ,which had collected water samples from Shimla’s affected areas,has confirmed that the water supplying for drinking contained dangerous virus ,which have origin to untreated sewage mix .One death has also taken place at Solan–which are gets supply from Ashwani Khad, a polluted and contaminated source located downstream to Malyana sweage Treatment plant.

As par Dr Ramesh Chand, IGMC continue to get patients of jaundice . ” There is a family admitted at the hospital,which has four patients from a single home’.
