Police jawan shot dead by Naxals in Maharashtra

As many as six Naxals in plain clothes fired at Nagose when he was standing near the stage and immediately fled away towards the jungle, it added.

A police jawan was on Thursday shot dead allegedly by Naxalites in Aheri tehsil of Gadchiroli district.

Nanaji Nagose, bodyguard of former MLA Deepak Dada Atram, was shot at village Chhallewada under Repanpalli Police Station when he was accompanying Atram at a programme to mark the 125th anniversary of B R Ambedkar, a release issued by Gadchiroli police said.

As many as six Naxals in plain clothes fired at Nagose when he was standing near the stage and immediately fled away towards the jungle, it added.

The jawan, who sustained injuries, was brought to the General Hospital here by a helicopter and was declared dead during treatment, the statement said.

Police said following the incident anti-Naxal operation has been intensified in the area.
