IMD weather forecast: Rainfall likely over Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, & MP on March 16

During the past 24 hours, maximum temperature recorded at many places over West Rajasthan, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Telangana, Odisha, Kerala, Rayalaseema and interior Tamilnadu was in the range of 36-38 degree Celsius.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorms during March 14-15 over some Northeastern states and said similar conditions are likely to prevail over Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh from March 16.

Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, maximum temperature recorded at many places over West Rajasthan, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Telangana, Odisha, Kerala, Rayalaseema and interior Tamilnadu was in the range of 36-38 degrees Celsius.  According to the Met department, West Bengal, Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh witnessed light to moderate rainfall during the same period. Hailstorm was also observed at isolated places over Uttarakhand and Maharashtra.

As isolated thunderstorm is predicted on March 16-17 over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Maharashtra, the Met department has pointed out that strong winds accompanying the rains may damage plantation and standing crops, injure people and cattle at open places, and so on.

• Due to low level southeasterly moist air incursion from the Bay of Bengal into east central and northeast India and its interaction with the middle tropospheric westerly trough from 16 March: Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) likely over interior Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand during March 16-18; over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand during the same period and over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on March 17-18.

• Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over south Chhattisgarh on the 17th and over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on March 17-18.

• Isolated hailstorm activity also likely over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana on March 16-17; over Maharashtra during March 14-16; over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on March 17-18.

• Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh on March 15.

Maximum temperatures forecast and heat wave warnings during next 5 days:

• Heat wave conditions very likely to occur in isolated pockets over Saurashtra on March 14.

• Northwest & East India: No significant change in maximum temperatures during next 2 days and fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius thereafter.

• Central & West India: No significant change in maximum temperatures during next 24 hours and fall by 2-4°C thereafter.

• Rest parts of the country: No significant change in maximum temperatures during next 5 days
