Bihar saw record voter turnout in the recently-concluded state Assembly polls, the results of which are awaited today. With 65.08 per cent voting in Phase 1 and 69.20 per cent voting in Phase 2, the election saw an overall of 67.13 per cent voters having cast their votes.

The BJP and JD(U) improved their vote share in the Bihar assembly elections despite contesting less number of seats this time, signalling a better booth-level coordination and resistance to incumbency among voters.

The BJP's vote share rose to 20.07 per cent from 19.46 per cent in 2020, even as it contested 101 seats in these elections compared to 110 constituencies in the last polls, according to Election Commission data.

Its ally JD(U) recorded one of the most notable gains in this election, with its vote share jumping to 19.26 per cent from 15.39 per cent in 2020. The party also contested 101 seats this time, as against the 115 seats in the last elections, the EC said. — PTI

CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya on Friday termed the outcome of the Bihar assembly polls “extremely unnatural”, and said the party would undertake a thorough analysis of the results.

In a statement issued by Bhattacharya, whose party could win only two of the 20 seats it contested, said, “The outcome of the assembly elections... Has the scars of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls all over it”.

“The party will undertake a thorough analysis of the outcome and draw necessary lessons,” he said. — PTI

On the victory in the Bihar Assembly Election 2025, BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde said, "The people of Bihar have voted this time, ignoring caste considerations and keeping PM Modi in mind. The Bihar election results have made one thing clear: Rahul Gandhi's vote theft issue has now been completely dispelled. Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, who used to mobilise people to vote in the name of casteism, failed to do so." — ANI

Reacting to the Bihar Assembly Election results, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to X and wrote in Hindi, "I express my heartfelt gratitude to those millions of voters in Bihar who expressed their trust in the Mahagathbandhan. This result in Bihar is truly surprising. We could not achieve victory in an election that was not fair from the very beginning. This fight is for the protection of the Constitution and democracy. The Congress Party and the INDIA alliance will deeply review this result and make their efforts to save democracy even more effective."

Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha says, "This is the win of Biharis, their respect, and esteem. Those who made Bihari an abuse, people of Bihar taught them a lesson."

Asaduddin Owaisi, who extensively campaigned in Bihar in support of his party (AIMIM) candidates, also said non-NDA parties should try to address their shortcomings instead of assuming voters would automatically favour them. — PTI

"Today, Bihar is among the states with a high youth population, and these youths belong to all religions and castes. Their wishes, aspirations and their dreams have destroyed the communal MY formula of the jungle raj people," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a swipe at the opposition.

He said the Bihar polls have also shown that the voters, especially the young ones, take the purification of the electoral list seriously.

Hailing the NDA's massive win in the Bihar Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the victory has given a new 'MY -- Mahila and Youth' formula with the people destroying the "communal MY formula of the jungle raj people".

Addressing party workers and supporters at the BJP headquarters here, Modi said Bihar is the land which gave India the pride of being the mother of democracy, and the same land has ensured that the people attacking democracy "bite the dust".

Here are 5 reasons why Tejashwi Yadav-led Mahagathbandhan crashed in Bihar.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary of the BJP won Tarapur assembly seat by a margin of 45,843 votes.

He bagged 1,22,480 votes, while his nearest rival, Arun Kumar of the RJD, secured 76,637 votes.

Santosh Kumar Singh of the Jan Suraaj Party was at the third spot, securing 3,898 votes. — PTI

Riding on the clear trends of Bihar Assembly polls which pointed towards a landslide victory of the NDA alliance over the Mahagathbandhan, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan said on Friday that he firmly believed that Nitish Kumar would continue to remain the state's chief minister.

Paswan attributed the "arrogance" of the Tejaswai Yadav-Rahul Gandhi-led opposition alliance for its thumping defeat and stated that the people's "faith in the unity of NDA partners" was the reason behind their convincing win. — PTI

So far, the Election Commission has declared results for 81 seats, of which the NDA has won 68 and the Mahagathbandhan 9.

Tejashwi Yadav won from the Raghopur seat, beating out rival BJP candidate Satish Kumar by over 13,000 seats in the final round of vote counting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the NDA as the alliance is slated to win the Bihar election with a massive majority.

In the final round of vote counting, RJD candidate and Bihar's former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav leading by nearly 14,000 votes. Tejashwi has garnered 1,16,467 votes in the 29th round of vote counting, while BJP's Satish Kumar is trailing with 1,02,580 votes.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday congratulated the people of Bihar for "choosing the path of development" after the NDA appeared to be heading to a landslide victory in the state.

Speaking at an event, the CM said Delhi and Bihar are interconnected.

"Congratulations to the people of Delhi and Bihar. The trends show that NDA is heading towards victory...I hope that Bihar progresses on the path of development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," she said.

RJD candidate Tejashwi Prasad Yadav made a comeback on the Raghopur seat, leading by over 11,400 votes during the 23rd round of voting. Tejashwi has garnered 94,448 votes so far, with BJP candidate Satish Kumar trailing with 82,977 votes.

RJD candidate and singer-turned-politician Khesari Lal is trailing by over 1900 votes from the Chapra seat. BJP candidate Chhoti Kumari is currently leading on the seat, with 35,312 seats in the 11th round of voting.

The Congress was leading in just two of the 61 seats it contested in Bihar, in a massive setback for the party that fought the assembly elections as part of the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan.

Md Qamrul Hoda was leading in Kishanganj by 24,058 votes after 19 rounds of counting, while Ajeet Sharma was ahead in Bhagalpur by 4,797 votes after 15 rounds of counting, according to the Election Commission.

Anant Singh, gangster-turned-politician and JD(U) candidate, is set to win big from the Mokama assembly seat in the Bihar election 2025. According to the ECI website, Singh has secured 91,416 votes, leading by over 26,000 votes in the final round of vote counting.

With trends suggesting a big win for the NDA in Bihar, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Friday claimed the assembly election results were not shocking as the Election Commission and BJP worked hand in hand to carry out their "national agenda".

"There is no need to be shocked by the Bihar Assembly election results. Looking at the national agenda being carried out hand-in-hand by the Election Commission and the BJP, a different outcome than this was simply not possible. This is exactly like the Maharashtra pattern," he said.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that the "game" played out through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar electoral rolls will no longer be succesful in other states

In a post on X in Hindi, Yadav said that the "game" carried out through SIR in Bihar has now been exposed, and that such "election conspiracies" will not be possible in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh or anywhere else.

"We will not allow them to play this game any further," he said.

Leading in 20 seats, Chirag Paswan has taken his LJP (RV) faction close to the party’s best-ever performance — 29 seats in February 2005 — under his father Ram Vilas Paswan. The NDA’s decision to give 29 seats to the LJP (RV) this time had raised eyebrows. With the results, Chirag has proved that the BJP leadership was right in placing its faith in him.

The RJD promised a government job to each of the 2.5 crore families in the state, 200 MW of free power, and Rs 2,500 to each woman per month under Mai Bahin Maan Yojana. But these promises appear not to have cut much ice with voters in the face of the success of the Nitish government’s welfare initiatives.

While Tejashwi Prasad Yadav’s jobs narrative did draw young voters during campaigning, it was the only a sizable vocal chunk he had. Eventually, it boiled down to social combination and leadership comparisons, and Tejashwi failed to break out of the mould of a Muslim-Yadav leader and also lagged far behind the tried-and-tested Nitish with his brand of social engineering mixed with development paradigm. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossed 200-mark -- a significant tally to reach in an election to 243 Assembly seats. On the other hand, the Mahagathbandhan's score plunged to 37.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad's elder son Tej Pratap, who contsted under his his newly formed Janshakti Janta Dal, stood in the fourth position in Mahua seat after the eighth round of counting, according to the Election Commission trends at 1 pm.

Yadav, who had recently floated his outfit after being expelled from the RJD, was trailing by 20,188 votes behind Sanjay Kumar Singh of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), who is leading there.

How have the parties fared in compared to 2020 polls? Let's have a look.

BJP's tally has shot up from 74 to 89 seats, while the JDU has recorded one of its strongest gains in recent years, rising from 43 to 79 — a jump of 34 seats.

The Mahagathbandhan is trailing far behind. RJD has dropped sharply from 75 to 32 seats, and Congress has fallen from 19 to 4. Other parties together account for 39 seats.

Though trailing in most constituencies, ECI data shows RJD's vote share (23.12%) is more than JD(U) (18.87%) or BJP (21.12%).

Meanwhile, JD(U) supporters have started their celebrations as they burst firecrackers, played drums outside the party headquarters as NDA's tally surges ahead.

As Jan Suraaj fails to open account in its first real test, Bihar party president Manoj Bharti says, “We have been saying from the start that we are trying to bring new politics to Bihar. It is tough to take this politics to the people of Bihar. Prashant Kishor always said if people understood what we were saying, we would be on top; if they didn’t, we would fail. These trends show that people have failed to understand us, and we also failed to make them understand.”

AIMIM’s Bihar president Akhtarul Iman is leading from Amour Assembly constituency in Seemanchal. JD(U)’s Saba Zafar and Congress’ Jaleel Mastan are trailing him.

Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Ram has raised doubts over the "integrity" of the counting process as ECI trends showed the NDA taking comfortable lead over the Mahagathbandhan, PTI reported. Ram alleged "serious anomalies" in the counting procecure, claiming that the process had slowed abruptly across many centres after the initial rounds.

Meanwhile, folk singer Maithili Thakur, a young face in the fray on a BJP ticket, is also leading from the Alinagar assembly constituency, with a margin of over 4,000 votes.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, a BJP candidate, is leading from the Tarapur constituency assembly with a margin of over 2,500 votes, according to ECI data

As of 10:30 am, Chaudhary has received 8,647 votes, while the RJD candidate, Arun Kumar, ranking at No. 2 has received 5,957 votes.

Rajasthan Leader of Opposition (LoP) Tikaram Jully spoke to PTI on the Bihar Assembly Election vote counting and said, "If votes are being added using Brazilian models, like what happened in Haryana, obviously they will ‘win’, but if vote theft is stopped and the people stand strong and protect their votes, then I am fully confident even now that the Mahagathbandhan will form the government there."

A striking poster featuring Bihar CM Nitish Kumar standing beside a tiger with a caption, 'tiger abhi zinda hai' (tiger is alive), appeared outside his residence today morning, just as the NDA took clear lead in the early trends after counting of votes started. According to news agency PTI, JD(U) workers surrounded the site as if unveiling a victory emblem ahead of time.

In Raghunathpur, RJD's Osama Shahab, son of Mohammad Shahabuddin, leads by 725 votes while JD(U)'s Vikash Kumar Singh trails.

According to trends published by NDTV, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is leading in Raghopur -- his family bastion -- where he is facing is facing BJP’s Satish Kumar Yadav.

As predicted by the exit polls, the NDA is dominating the initial trends and is ahead of the Mahagathbandhan in more than 70 seats.

With counting of votes underway in full swing, former Bihar Minister Anil Kumar Sharma chipped in with his two cents about the expected results. Here's what he has to say.
