The controversy over the exclusion of IIM-Ahmedabad board of governors (BoG) chairman from the search committee for a new director has now ended with the current chairman A M Naik being appointed as committees chairman.
Outgoing IIM-A board chairman Vijaypat Singhania (of Raymond Industries) had appointed a search committee a few days before his term expired in April this year but had excluded the new chairman from the panel. The term of the incumbent director Prof. Samir Barua expires in November this year.
IIM-A board chairman had always traditionally headed the search committee.
The tradition was followed even when the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry held the authority for appointment of the director.
The ministry had handed back this authority to all IIMs in February after much wrangling with the B-schools.
Sources said the search committee would shortlist three names and present it before the BoG when it meets again in August. BoG would choose one of the names as the next director.
