District administrations in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu declared a holiday for schools and colleges Tuesday amid persistent heavy rainfall and continued weather alerts linked to Cyclone Ditwah. Officials said the decision was based on updated assessments from the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) and the prolonged impact of the weather system along the northern Tamil Nadu coast.

Two major state universities — Anna University and the University of Madras — also postponed their semester examinations scheduled in affected districts. Administrators said the move was taken as a precautionary measure in view of student safety and the uncertain trajectory of the system.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light to moderate rain at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some pockets of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu.

Under the influence of the weakening system, parts of Andhra Pradesh are also expected to receive heavy rainfall till December 3, the IMD added.
