BJP National general secretary (Organisation) B L Santhosh is expected to visit Manipur later this week, amid continuing pressure from party MLAs for the restoration of a popular government in the state.
This comes a month after over 27 NDA MLAs from the state set up camp in New Delhi to build pressure on the party’s central leadership, and met the BJP’s Northeast coordinator, Sambit Patra, as well as Santhosh there. Following this, former Manipur CM N Biren Singh hinted that Santhosh would visit the state soon to consider the situation.
Manipur BJP chief A Sharda Devi Monday met state office bearers and morcha presidents ahead of Santhosh’s visit. “Discussed the roadmap and action plans to strengthen the organisation and serve the people more effectively,” she said in a statement after the meeting.
Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13, and the Meitei and Naga NDA MLAs have now been conducting a months-long campaign for the restoration of a popular government in the state. However, the central leadership has so far not displayed any inclination towards lifting President’s Rule.
