Bihar’s economy more than trebled after 2011-12: Economic survey report

Between 2018-19 and 2022-23, milk production increased by 27.3 per cent and egg production by 85 per cent, said the economic survey report

Bihar’s economy has more than trebled, from Rs 2.47 lakh crore in 2011-12 to Rs 8.54 lakh crore in 2023-24, according to the state’s Economic Survey 2024-25 report tabled in the Assembly on Friday – the opening day of the Budget session.

On investments in the state, the report said, “State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) has received 3,752 proposals amounting to Rs 75,293 crore. The total amount of investment in 769 units is worth Rs 8,464 crore. By September 2024, the food processing sector invited investment worth Rs 3,517 crore from 353 units. The proposed investment for ethanol production is Rs 30,747 crore, representing 41 per cent of total investment proposals.”

Quoting from the survey report, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary said that in 2023-24, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) invited applications for 4,29,015 posts. The report also said the government spent Rs 200.47 crore to support 40,099 entrepreneurs, provided seed money of Rs 15 crore to 1,706 startups, and that in 2023, tourist flow reached 8.21 crore.

It also highlighted the construction of four expressways – the Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Expressway, Gorakhpur-Siligurhi Expressway, Patna-Purnia Expressway, and Raxaul-Haldia Expressway.

The report said life expectancy has increased from 65.8 years in 2006-10 to 69.5 years in 2016-20.
