India got its first Amrit Bharat trains on Saturday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off two of them after inaugurating the revamped railway station in Ayodhya.

The PM also flagged off six new Vande Bharat trains during the event. Besides these, PM Modi is also inaugurating the newly built airport in the temple town and laying foundation stones of development projects worth Rs 15,700 crore for Uttar Pradesh, including projects worth Rs 11,100 crore for Ayodhya.

The Prime Minister’s visit sets the tone for the run-up to the consecration ceremony of the temple idol on January 22. The Sangh Parivar has mobilised for the event and is taking its outreach initiatives across India.

What are the Amrit Bharat trains?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off a new category of superfast passenger trains in the country — the Amrit Bharat Express. The train is an LHB push pull train with non air-conditioned coaches. This train has locos at both ends for better acceleration. It provides improved facilities for passengers, like re-designed seats, better luggage racks, mobile charging ports, LED lights, CCTV, and public information system, among others.

The two new Amrit Bharat trains flagged off will run from Darbhanga to Anand Vihar via Ayodhya, and Malda town to Bengaluru.

What are the new Vande Bharat routes flagged off?

PM Modi also flagged off six new Vande Bharat Trains. These will be running from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to New Delhi; Amritsar to Delhi; Coimbatore to Bangalore Cantt; Mangalore to Madgaon; Jalna to Mumbai; and Ayodhya to Anand Vihar.

The Prime Minister also dedicated three railway projects worth Rs 2,300 crore to strengthen rail infrastructure in the region. The projects include the Rooma Chakeri-Chanderi third line project; Jaunpur-Tulsi Nagar, Akbarpur-Ayodhya, Sohawal-Patranga and Safdarganj-Rasauli sections of the Jaunpur-Ayodhya-Barabanki doubling project; and doubling and electrification project of the Malhaur-Daliganj railway section.
