IIT-Roorkee presents Distinguished Alumnus Awards 2024, 2025; also honours those strengthening institute’s global presence

Nominations for these awards were invited from alumni worldwide. The Outstanding Service Awards are honoured to Nitesh Saini and Vipin Kumar Goswami for strengthening global IITR alumni networks.

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) on November 25 presented the Distinguished Alumnus, Distinguished Young Alumnus, and Outstanding Service Award recipients for 2024 and 2025 during its Foundation Day celebrations. 

The Distinguished Alumnus Awards honour exceptional contributions made by alumni of IIT Roorkee, previously University of Roorkee, across categories including academic or research excellence, engineering or technology innovation, leadership in government or public sector, leadership in private sector, entrepreneurial excellence, and service to society.

The Distinguished Young Alumnus Award (DYAA) further acknowledges the achievements of alumni under the age of 40.

In addition, the Outstanding Service Awards (OSA) were presented to recognise excellence in augmenting resources for IIT Roorkee, promoting excellence in academics and research and inculcating entrepreneurial spirit.

Nominations for these awards were invited from alumni worldwide, reflecting IIT Roorkee’s rich legacy and far-reaching impact across diverse fields, an IIT Roorkee statement issued in this regard said.

In Academic and Research Excellence (2024–25), the institute honoured Prof. Krishna R. Reddy and Prof. Venkat Lakshmi for their global contributions to geoenvironmental engineering and hydrology. For 2025, Prof. Ram B. Gupta and Prof. Gaurav Sharma were recognised for advancing sustainability research, image processing, and data science.

In Engineering and Technology Innovation, Dr. Vinod Kumar (2024) and Jai Prakash Srivastava (2025) were awarded for leadership in steel R&D and technology indigenisation at BHEL.

Under Leadership in Government and Public Sector, the 2024 award went to Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power. For 2025, Dr. Anupma Prakash and Sushil Kumar were honoured for their contributions to geophysics, research leadership, and metro rail development.

In the Private Sector, Dr. Rajeev Gautam (2024) was recognised for leadership in biotech. Entrepreneurial Excellence awards went to Karthik Reddy and Rishi Das (2024) and HiLabs founder Amit Garg (2025).

The Distinguished Young Alumnus Award was presented to Triomics co-founder Hrituraj Singh, while Outstanding Service Awards honoured Nitesh Saini and Vipin Kumar Goswami for strengthening global IITR alumni networks.

While congratulating the awardees Prof. K.K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, said: “It is a proud moment for IIT Roorkee to recognise these distinguished individuals for their outstanding achievements and transformative contributions. These honours reflect not only their excellence but also the enduring values and academic strength of the institute. I congratulate all the awardees and look forward to their continued association in advancing the institute’s vision and contributing to a better society.”
