The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad) and the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow Enterprise Incubation Centre (IIM Lucknow EIC) have been selected as new academic partners for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women initiative. The programme, which focuses on supporting women entrepreneurs with business education, networking, and access to capital, is expanding its reach in India.

According to an official statement, Goldman Sachs aims to graduate 1,000 women entrepreneurs in India over the next year, up from its current base of 3,800 participants, with a target of 10,000 by 2033. The expansion builds on the existing collaboration with IIM Bangalore’s NSRCEL. The initiative is aligned with India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision, which emphasises economic growth and development through enhanced participation of women in entrepreneurship.

The programme equips women entrepreneurs with management training, mentorship, and exposure to business networks. IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Lucknow will deliver in-person courses alongside IIM Bangalore, offering curriculum designed to address structural barriers faced by women in business, particularly in accessing capital and professional networks. The curriculum is also available online globally via Coursera, in English and Hindi, widening access to training.

The 10,000 Women programme has reported measurable outcomes in India. On average, participants have quadrupled their revenues and doubled their workforce soon after completing the course. Collectively, graduates have created more than 12,000 new jobs and generated significant revenue for the economy. In addition, most participants have adapted effectively to external disruptions, while nine out of ten have mentored other women entrepreneurs, creating further employment opportunities.

According to a statement, Goldman Sachs’ “India Womenomics” research has highlighted that India, with its favourable demographics, could benefit significantly over the next two decades if more women are integrated into the workforce. The report notes that India’s female labour force participation remains below the level of other major economies, making initiatives such as 10,000 Women critical for long-term growth.

Launched in 2008, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women is a global initiative that has reached over 320,000 women entrepreneurs across more than 150 countries. In partnership with the International Finance Corporation, the programme has facilitated over US$3.1 billion in investments for women in emerging markets. In India, the initiative is currently implemented in partnership with IIM Ahmedabad EIC, IIM Lucknow EIC, and IIM Bangalore NSRCEL.
