
CUET UG 2023: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has recorded a total 16.85 lakh registrations for Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2023. Out of these, 13.95 lakh have paid the fees and submitted the application form. There has been an increase of 4 lakh student registration from the debut edition of CUET in 2022, as per exam conducting body NTA.
This year, the number of female candidates have seen a nearly 50 per cent increase while number of male candidates have seen 34 per cent increase.
Out of 13.99 lakh candidates, 6.51 lakh are female candidates and 7.48 lakh are male candidates. Last year, around 4.34 lakh students who applied were female and 5.56 candidates were male.
UGC Chairperson, M Jagadesh Kumar said, “We have also seen an increase in the number of participating universities. In 2022, it was 90, but in 2023 it rose to 242. This significant rise indicates that CUET-UG is becoming a popular option for admissions in UG programmes.”
Among different categories, a substantial growth was recorded in the number of candidates belonging to ST category from 58,881 candidates in 2022 to 95,119 candidates in 2023. The rise in number was witnessed by all categories. A total of 1,40,307 students belonging to SC category registered for CUET 2023, recording a jump of 35 per cent. The OBC-NCL category recorded 4,61,022 registrations, an increase of 45.2 per cent. Open category recorded 6,42,443 registrations, a rise of 39.6 per cent. EWS category witnessed 60,611 registrations, a rise of 20.5 per cent.
CUET UG score is not used for admission to BA, BCom and BSc courses but also for admission to other programmes such as Integrated dual degree BBA LLB, BVoc, BDes, BArch, BCA, and more. CUET UG score is also being used by various colleges/universities for admission into engineering disciplines. It is also used for lateral entry of diploma holders in second year of BTech.
The highest number of application among central universities have been received by University of Delhi (DU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), University of Allahabad, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University and Jamia Millia Islamia.
Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Bihar are top states when it comes highest number of registrations. Last year too, these three states topped the chart for highest number of application.
A considerable jump has been seen among student registrations from Jammu and Kashmir from 13,021 in 2022 to 82,655 in 2023, a increase of 6.3 times.
A significant increase of 31 per cent was also recorded from the north-eastern region (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim). Last year 59,208 candidates registered for the exam, while this year, the number has increased to 77,365.
Among the five southern states (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and Tamil Nadu), the highest number of applications were received from Kerala. A total of 56,111 candidates registered from Kerala, recording an increase of 51 per cent. Tamil Nadu came second with 24,462 registrations and recording an increase of 45 per cent.
This year, students from 74 countries submitted their application for CUET UG 2023. The students have registered from across Europe, Asia, America and Gulf nations.
